USB CD Burners?

This may or may not be related, but...
I'm playing with an external USB Sony DRU-510a at work on Solaris 8.
This is a DVD +/- RW drive. I have the same drive at home as an IDE
drive and haven't gotten around to putting it in my USB 2.0 enclosure.
Sun has something called cdrw that works with CDs. It isn't working
with the DVD+R I have. There is something called growisofs (part of
dvd+tools) that claims to work with DVD+R/DVD+RW devices. I can't get
it to work either. I'll try tomorrow with -R media.
I have gotten growisofs to work on linux with + media. The various
hacked cdrecord programs do not work with the + media.
