Thanks Bill.  This got it working, sort of, sometimes.  :-(

I appear to be having a DNS problem or something.  Sometimes the SMARTHOST 
resolves to 1.0.0.0 instead of the actual IP address.  I even see this with 
ping.  Is my ISP having problems with their servers or could it be something 
on my FC3 system?
