Randy,
Your analysis is quite good, but does not go far enough. The problem is that
by giving the tube away, you have to assume that it still is going to be used,
You know, I used to work in a CRT factory. We made computer monitors
that sold for $125. Each monitor required 6.5 man-hours to produce
and we got paid $7.25 an hour. If you do the math, I had to work
17.25 hours in order to save up enough money to buy a monitor. But I
could build myself one in just under 7.
So, if I'm working almost three times as much as I need to (in order
to get a nice new monitor), where's all *my* extra energy going?
