Experience with UPSes on USB?

I've had more problems than I care to think about with USB on 2.4
kernels. They appeared to be mostly hardware vs. driver problems, but
there appeared to be some USB vs. PCI problems too.
2.6 kernels are more reliable, but seem to have other problems
(especially w/mounting usb-storage devices).
If possible, I would stick with serial interfaces for now.
