There is an accounting package I am *very* interested in hearing
some informed opinions of. It's called "Quasar Accounting", and it's
from a company called "LinuxCanada".

                http://www.linuxcanada.com/

Client/server. Modular. Multi-user. Server runs on doze or nix.
GUI runs on doze or nix. You can mix platforms. POS add-on for
Linux. The GUI looked reasonable to me, from a general stand-point.
It wasn't anywhere near as flashy as Quickbooks, but it looked
functional. It appears to be under active development -- at the
least, I've been checking the site for the past year or so, and the
version number keeps going up.

They used to offer a 30-day free trial of the whole package, and a
perpetual free license for the basic module for a single user. I say
"used to" because -- get ready for this -- they are now offering it
under the *GNU General Public License*. That's right, it's **FREE**,
in both senses of the word.

Unfortunately, I know *nothing* about accounting, and so I can't do
an informed review.

It's getting to the point where I'm considering spending my own
money to hire a professional account to do a paid independent
evaluation of the program. It looks so damn promising, but nobody
seems to know anything about it!
