Not just firewalls, but my Netgear home router does the same thing. More than
a few times I ran nmap and then wondered why nothing worked again (until I
reset my router). And any SSH connections left idling through the router
(either way) will eventually just stop responding and time out.
It will be replaced soon, so I will soon be unfettered by these limitations...
