I assume you have:

 none         /proc/bus/usb     usbfs   defaults  0    0

in your /etc/fstab file.

You probably need to access /dev/sda1 or something like that.  I know
on the systems I have 2.4.22 this is necessary, I haven't tried on
2.4.27 or newer yet.
