If you're talking about the main debian repositories, the following is
from the official Ubuntu FAQ
(https://www.ubuntulinux.org/support/documentation/faq/faqfolder_view)

Can I use both Ubuntu and Debian packages together, in the same
sources.list?

In general, it's not a very good idea. While Debian and Ubuntu are
compatible to a large degree, and share many of the same source
packages, the binary packages are not identical due to having been built
independently. This causes unexpected effects in the package management
system.

However, if you're looking for "more" than the basic package set, here's
some extra repositories to try.

There's the universe and multiverse repositories. These are items made
available by Ubuntu as a courtesy to users, but are not supported and
are not guaranteed to be up to date or have security fixes made
available.

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu warty universe multiverse
deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu warty universe multiverse

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu warty-security main restricted
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu warty-security main restricted

A lot of multimedia related stuff (quicktime codecs, M$ codecs, *cough*
libdvdcss *cough*, etc) are available on the french marillat
repository. Note that this repository is targeted at Debian unstable
and there may be some conflicts with library versions, etc.

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ testing main

Ubuntu backports - these folks look at the current development version
of Ubuntu and backport some of the items to the current one (such as a
newer firefox for instance)

deb http://ubuntu-bp.sourceforge.net/ubuntu warty-backports main
universe

Hope that helps.
