  FWIW:

I dropped my subscription to SAM last year. I was finding I was less and
less likely to assign the limited cycles I had for mag-reading to it. It
was still largely focused on traditional commercial Unix, and on
environments larger then I work in. Right now, my world consists of Linux
and *doze, and organizations with not more then a few hundred computers. I
suspect if I was still working at UNH (where they had at least one of every
computer ever made), I'd find SAM a lot more useful. Then again, that was
in 1996. It may be UNH is all Linux and *doze now, too. (Although I kinda
doubt it.)

The dead-tree mags I currently subscribe to are:

Linux Journal - Still *the* Linux magazine.
Maximum PC - I still follow the "PC enthusiast" world, even if I don't
have the time to play there much anymore. Plus it's entertaining.
Consumer Reports - Best "real life" publication out there.
  Analog - Duh. I'm a geek. ;-)

I'd prolly subscribe to Linux Format if the cost/income ratio for me was
lower. It's a good mag.
