Sound card recommendations?

  Yah... there was a time when the Hardware-HOWTO was considered the Bible
for Linux compatibility.  I'm afraid the days when Linux was small enough to
be tracked in a "published document" are gone.  I'm not sure what the
solution is.  The geek in me wants to throw a database with web UI at it,
but I suspect the problem is as much people as technology.  Witness ALSA,
which has several perfectly serviceable web sites, but still is incredibly
hard to decipher.

  Yah, *that's* really just a message board where you can find lots of
contradictory information.  Mainly people saying product X either works fine 
or doesn't work at all, and people saying those people must be idiots.

  Kinda like Usenet, but with icons.  ;-)
