Argh! My initial kneejerk reaction is, "Run! Run fast!" Why? Well,
it's written by "Roblimo" of Slashdot (among others) fame.

And boy, has he irked me from time to time over the years. He is, for
example, the one who published the "Alex Chiu" interview
(http://slashdot.org/interviews/01/06/07/1421238.shtml) -- an interview
with someone selling, yes, magnetic longevity rings. To say that I was
unamused would be an understatement.

HOWEVER.

That was some years ago, and maybe things have changed. A quick perusal
of the book on Amazon
(http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0131488724/102-3254204-3879334)
shows that the readers generally liked it, but most found it a bit
simplistic. Since it's meant for an utter newbie, though, I think that
that's appropriate. I guess the bottom line is: buy it, and let us know
how it went! ;-)
