Since we are on AC war stories. A number of years ago, the company I worked
for decided to make a "midnight move" from their Porter Sq. building to a
new building in East Cambridge. The space we were moving into was leased by
the former copresident of the company. We had to move out VAX 11/70. First
of all, the elevator could fit the VAX but nothing else. Fortunately it had
a front and back door. We wheeled it in from the front, then on the third
floor one guy was standing outside the back door to push it out. The
computer room fit the VAX with barely enough room to open the skins. The
system would run until the room was at 110 degrees, so we had to buy an AC.
Of course we didn't pay our bill and the AC guy shut it down. (BTW: The
company later went chapter 7).
Maddog would have liked the building. It was a former carriage house with a
working horse-drawn elevator. (The horses were long gone, but the elevator
was still there along with the ropes).
