I've been seeing some mentions lately of cheap VoIP/Asterisk service,
so I thought I'd put in my $.02--quite literally.
NuFone http://www.nufone.net provides SIP and IAX2 (with protocol
failover) PSTN access for a flat rate of $0.02 per minute for all
incoming and outgoing calls. There is no monthly, annual, or set-up
fee. You get a toll-free DID at no extra cost (though there is a fee
for vanity numbers). The company runs Asterisk on its servers, so
it's Linux-friendly, and their tech support is surprisingly quick on
the reply.
I have had some questions about the reliability of the service,
however. On occasion, I've had to place a call three or four times to
get it to go through.
Overall, I like it. One of these days, I'm going to put another
context in my extensions.conf file and turn the PBX into a
PIN-protected calling card. /me gazes into the future...
Dave
