Hardware question about my new ASUS motherboard

I have a new ASUS A8N-SLI Premium. Things seem to be working fine. I'm
curious about the dual onboard NICs. I use the machine as a gateway
server so this machine is my home firewall, as well as my mail and web
server. And the second NIC is the inside network for the rest of the
house.
The question I have is about my modprobe.conf file. With Fedora Core 4
loades on in, I have two different drivers for the different NICs.
alias eth0 sk98lin
alias eth1 forcedeth
Can someone explain what this is? Is one NIC more suited to be the
external?
The reason I'm asking is because in the past I have had dual NICs and they
used the same driver (because they were the same type). So I'm just
suprised to see two onboard NICs that take different drivers.
Thanks guys.
