#replace user with user's information and user at domain.com with user's
address
\user, "|/usr/bin/vacation -a user at domain.com user"

I also built the .vacaton.msg by hand but came to discover that it's built
automatically when vacation is initiated as are the .forward.db and the
.forward files.

In order to turn off the vacation message simply rename or delete the
.forward file.

Some important notes here. When I built the files by hand they had the wrong
permissions and ownership. As Bruce pointed out, make sure to su user to put
user on vacation to get the correct permissions for the above three files in
user's home directory. It becomes obvious that something is wrong in the
logs, when sendmail complains about the group permissions.

I also had some corrections to make in DNS. But that was a side note.

I recieved some help from 'man vacation' but that was cursory.

Feel free to comment/add whatever here.

Thanks for all the help.
