Well, Subaru certainly has been our "state vehicle" since we got married almost 30 years ago.

The earliest one, a manual-tran "Yamiyagi", was arguably the most durable - 350,000 miles before it rusted beyond rescue by Bondo and pop-rivets.  Later ones, Legacy Outbacks, tended to have very expensive head gasket blowouts just beyond warranty - plus other problems mechanical and human (we stopped taking it to our dealership due to ethics issues).

Two years ago, I bought a Toyota Tundra as a second vehicle, as Subaru does not now offer a pickup.  As a "state vehicle" it is overkill, but we have been so impressed with it that perhaps some kind of a Toyota (maybe a hybrid 4wd) may move into that position when our Subaru can't cut it anymore.

    Actually I think Subaru is the official vehicle of New Hampshire.
