Yes, I should clarify - my experience has been limited to 'server'  
boards of late - that is ones with ECC controllers and serial console  
redirection.  Worst case there was to grab a newer version of e1000  
and modprobe it (the kernel on the boot CD was older than the one in  
the yum update).  I'm not using any non-ECC systems for real work  
these days, since I've seen ECC in action.
