BarCampManchester 7/28

I've been to one of the spin-off camps, DrupalCampNYC back in January (going
to my second DrupalCampNYC next weekend) and I was really impressed with how
educational that was, and my husband and I decided we wanted to get involved
with something BarCamp like back home.... so we've gotten involved in the
planning process for BarCampManchester. I'm not so sure I'll sign up to help
with planning again, but what can I say? It's gotten me out of the house a
little bit. ;)

But anyway.... General information on the upcoming BarCamp....

It's on July 28th at ABI in Manchester. All we ask is that if you're
planning on coming, pre-register on the registration page (
http://barcampmanchester.org/index.php?title=Registration) so we can have a
rough headcount for food purposes.

I believe the planned lunch is either going to be subs or pizza, which one
it'll be is still dependent on what we get for sponsorship.

I think the "un-conference" term generally refers to the fact that the event
doesn't come with a pre-destined itinerary and planned speakers as most
conferences do..... and I imagine whether or not such events end up
resulting in chaos probably is somewhat dependent upon how good the people
in charge are at explaining how things are going to work and facilitating
things, it's hard to say what will be discussed because generally that's
decided by the crowd the day of, but it's generally encouraged for those
attending to check out the Sessions, Panels and Activity pages (they're
linked to off of the main site, http://barcampmanchester.org) and make
suggestions of what sessions you'd like to see others give as well as
sessions you might like to lead. That way, it also gives people a feel for
what sort of things might be discussed prior to the event. Not required,
but definitely encouraged.

We're still looking for sponsors as well, so if anyone either owns or works
for a company that might be interested, the info is up here:
http://barcampmanchester.org/index.php?title=Sponsorship_Information. There
was also a really spiffy flier hanging around, but I don't see it anywhere
on the wiki.... If someone's interested in seeing that, I can see if I can
get ahold of it for you, just shoot me an email.
