fedora 7 on laptop no longer burns CDs or DVDs

FWIW, I've not had any problems like this w/Gnome/Ubuntu and it has
the automount thingies.  the automount stuff does annoy me from time
to time, but it doesn't cause failures when burning CDs or DVDs.
