Seconded.  There's also a tool out there called the Ultimate Boot CD for 
Windows (http://www.ubcd4win.com) that you can build.  It's not 
straightforward how to build it because it needs to scavenge a lot of files 
from your Windows XP installation disc in order to make itself.  That means 
it can't be distributed as an ISO image to burn like Knoppix, but you can 
boot it up and get to a Windows interface that can read and write your NTFS 
partitions easily, maintaining permissions and everything.  

It may not be an option at the moment, unless you have another machine with 
Windows XP on it to build the disc on.  But, for future reference, having a 
bootable Windows installation on CD is very helpful for problems like this.
