At this point the Ubuntu install DVD's will boot a live Linux session
with ntfs-3g to read and write ntfs partitions.  Knoppix showed the way
for building these boot from CD/DVD setups.  If you have severe memory
constraints (these do use RAM disks), the PuppyOS CD may work better.

Fedora is also available as a live CD.  You have lots of options and
should be able to rescue your data.  

Do *not* let the tech support guys talk you into running a "recovery CD"
that wipes your existing Windows installation.
