  So the old one was better 'cause it didn't waste space.

  All the other stuff you list, while true, doesn't actually justify
using more screen space.  They only help mitigate the wasted space.

  I guess this depends on one's usage habits.

  I used the old location bar behavior as an alternative to bookmarks.
 Because it favored most-used sites, I could type "sl" to get the
Slashdot home page, "xk" to get the xkcd home page, "gnh" to get the
GNHLUG home page, etc.  Because those were most-used, I could just
type a few letters and hit [Down], [Enter] and be there.

  The "Awesome Bar" doesn't seem to use that algorithm (by default).
That effectively destroys the "bookmarks" I've been using for 5+
years.
