It matters because your only interface available to the Norstar  
system is evidently POTS.  So you make Asterisk pretend to be the  
POTS and you've connected Asterisk to the Nortel.  Something like this:

Will give you 8 FXS ports to plug your POTS lines into.

You may need to conjure a dial-plan wizard to get the routing right.
