Yeah, if you've got the time, budget, and knowledge.  Sometimes writing
the first version is a way to actually understand the problem. :)

If you're just storing the file associations then it sounds like a
single table of filenames.  Nearly all your work would be in the CRUD
department.  It does seem like there should be a generalized solution to
this at the command line, though I don't know what that is.
