Linux on a Sun Blade 2500?

My experience over the years has been that, although there existing Linux
for Sparc, there is not that great of a developer or support community
around it.

If you just want to reinstall and have a usable Sun system, I would highly
recommend just reinstalling it with a new Solaris install. Solaris is a free
(as in cost) download.Just go here,
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/get.jsp and get the " Free Solaris 10
10/08 download."

The Hardware Platform Guide says your system is fully supported (
http://docs.sun.com/source/817-6337/chapterHPG.html#BEJFCAEE). The
installation manual is available online,
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-5236?l=en

The Solaris 10 DVD comes with a large amount of the common GNU and other
FOSS software you would expect on a Linux system, in fact the common
graphical interface is the same GNOME environment you find on Ubuntu or
Fedora. Some information about the FOSS software that comes with or is
available from Sun is located here:
