yeah, I can confirm this on some of the PERC 3 models.  The controllers
would go out to lunch and never come back - basically 2.6 was too
efficient for what the 2.4-tested firmware expected and overwhelmed it.
 The firmware never got updated, so some recent success is people moving
on to newer hardware.

Last summer I had a client insist on Dell RAID and ran into an issue
with something very similar, but an updated dkms a few months later
fixed it.
