  The PERC 3 series was the first and last Dell RAID controller to use
an Adaptec chipset.  Now you know why.  It's a horrible chipset.  It's
slow as molasses even when it's working properly.

  Every other PERC before or since has used a variation on the
MegaRAID chipsets made by LSI Logic (formerly AMI).  They're decent,
if unexciting, RAID cards.
