Just to clarify, cygwin is actually a package manager for Windows that
installs POSIX compliant libraries and tools including X.org, one of the
most popular X servers (as Ben pointed out). So, if you're ok with
installing XMing (which, as I understand, is just X.org and some cygwin
libraries and tools packaged up into a simpler installer with some glue
applied), then cygwin shouldn't be any worse.
