E-reader web-based back-end?

If you install Calibre on Linux, it installs a web server to its
collection. It's fantastic for importing, tagging, metadata and converting
formats. It will keep multiple formats under the same metadata. I wish
there was a good mp3 reorganizer like it that could tack multiple copies of
the same song.
Calibre also has a reader and creator/editor in it.
I have a web server pointing at the directory Calibre stores everything
in. I can go through the directory underneath and pull books out by
filename. It doesn't have the features the Calibre server has (search on
metadata, import, etc) but its sufficient. I do have a number of PDFs,
Linux Journal downloads, O'Reilly ebooks that I have not imported into
Calibre and just have in a directory my webserver can see.
If you use Chrome, there are a number of extensions that will read epub and
PDF. The Kindle Cloud reader will read mobi format. O'Reilly books allow
you to place them in Dropbox too.
As for the DRM stuff, it's out there. I used to use a SmartQ 7 tablet that
predates the iPad and Android 2.1(?) that runs Ubuntu (10??) for ARM.
