Comcast residential service includes a monthly charge for the cable
modem.  Buying a Motorola SURFboard SB61621 will pay for itself pretty
quickly.  It has three connectors: power, coax, ethernet.

Comcast business service requires that you use their modem/router.  If
you want to have a mail server accepting email on port 25 you will be
forced to get the business service.
