I have a chromecast and a linux box, but I've never tried to make them work
together. I've seen posts that tab casting from chrome is supposed to work
on linux (though unsupport). I have lots of weird problems going from my
old ass mac to my chromecast too. There's def some funky network stuff that
goes on, did you try temporarily disabling your iptables setup and using
incognito mode with all your other plugins disabled? Also a tcpdump would
tell you if any packets are going back and forth, you could maybe see if
the chromecast responds when you try the plugin.

When I'm home in a week or two I can test my setup and see if I can get it
working.
