   I realize that you've solved the immediate problem, but I'll add
something for the benefit for other users, archive searchers, etc.
Try out the "lpoptions" command sometime.  With "-l" it will list all
of the options for your default printer and the current settings.
Running it on my work machine tells me that MY duplex setting is
called "Duplex", and that I can select every number from 1 to 999 for
"Copies". ;) 
   lpoptions also gives you the concept of instances which can then be
used as destinations for the "lp" command.
