FYI, here's a recipe for shaving down FC1 for a network server to under  
400MB:

400MB still seems excessive to me since my first linux machine ran off  
a 90MB bernoulli cart for its entire disk store, but, if that's still  
too big there's always gentoo or linux-from-scratch.
