I should have foreseen that this thread would turn out
to be more organizational/political than technical -
sorry 'bout that, and thanks for all the feedback.

I guess I'll choose to believe that the fundamental
problem here is that the people who hired me promised
me things they were not actually authorized to promise.
Clearly, they were so thrilled by my skills, experience
and good looks that they simply lost their heads.

And even if I were inclined to slog through a stupid
bureaucratic battle and "win" my promised access,
it'd still probably have to go into the LOSS column
because my management would then be in bad odor for
making bogus promises, and if I'm gonna stick around
that's probably not in my long term interests.

So, onward to VPN land, hopefully some FOSS thing
like FreeS/Wan but whatever it takes...
