As I recall, someone "outside" of GNHLUG wrote and complained that their
info (not just an email, IIRC) appeared in a message in the archives.
Since GNHLUG has no legal status, we didn't want to fight any battles over
it, and just flipped the switch to "private". All list members can still
get to the archives with their subscription credentials. And the list is
still archived at mail-archive.com. For that matter, this is absolutely
nothing stopping anyone from putting up their own archive using whatever
software and configuration they want. Hell, a spammer could sub one of
their robots to the list for the sole purpose of harvesting addresses.
Again, if this really bothers anyone, I suggest they step forward and *do*
something about it. This group's leadership has been practically begging
for assistance (any way, any kind) for years. So there is huge opportunity
to change things if one doesn't like how they are. OTOH, complaining about
things on this list is, in all probability, going to get precisely nothing
done. People will get as much out of this group as they put in. I'm
putting practically nothing into GNHLUG lately, but I'm also happy with what
I'm getting back out, too, so I'm set (right now). If someone else is not
happy, it is up to them to improve things.
Again, sorry about the harshness of the above, but reality often *is*
harsh, and I'm not in a diplomatic mood right now.
