As far as I've seen VPS's are uniformly awful. I have clients who pay
more for VPS's than I do for a raw-iron box from 1&1 and everything is
slow and you can't configure half of what you need to. It's worth
noting even raw iron boxes from 1&1 come loaded with Plesk - a piece of
software apparently aimed at making Linux miserable and confusing. I
can't say I really understand it but it seems to be Webmin done wrong.
I'm sure I'm missing the point, but rm -rf /usr/local/plesk seems to
solve those problems.
I should elaborate on my earlier recommendation and say my experience
only applies to their raw hardware ('root server') offering.
