Beware! Not all inverters are the same - a lot are acoustically noisy
(e.g. constant buzzing).
You may want to consider building your own with a bunch of
deep-discharge batteries (sealed if to be used in a closed environment),
a Xantrex inverter, and a charger. (I mention Xantrex simply because
they don't hum/buzz much; I don't know much about others. And their
ProSine series produces a true sinewave. However, they are expensive,
and last "forever". Note that their built-in charge circuit probably
won't be useful for your purposes.)
Put the inverter on one end of the batteries, and the charger on the
other. Swapping ends every so often (monthly) helps keep the "wear"
evened out (assuming standard lead-acid or gel batteries). You will need
a big charger - bigger than what you draw.
However, I too am interested in this subject. I've investigated but
haven't been satisfied with what I found. I'd be interested in what
others have to say. (My [limited] experience is with a boat's powerplant
and a friend who went off the power grid.)
