FWIW, Microsoft Word proper, between Windows and Mac, can't manage this 
feat with any kind of certainty.

On one hand, you'd think if the file format allowed for it they'd have 
made the Mac version embed whatever kind of metrics/data in the file to 
permit rendering accuracy on Windows.  Some sort of breaking hints, and 
perhaps leading and kerning data, maybe.

On the other hand, it's Microsoft, so you probably have to emulate the 
Windows GDI to have any chance of success.
