Thanks, but no, I have an installable image which I *can* use by
burning to a CD.  Which is what I'm trying to avoid doing.  I want to
use QEMU to test my image so I know it's good and so I don't have to
waste a huge amount of time burning CDs which will ultimately be
wasted.

I'll check that out nonetheless, thanks.

I've looked at bochs in the past but never gone anywhere with it.  If
I can't get QEMU to work, maybe I'll spend some time looking at that.
