Software Freedom Day update

Ted and Bill (Sconce)'s next excellent adventure will be the Software
Freedom Day event at the Hopkinton Town Library [0] on Saturday
September 16th, 10 am - 2 pm. Volunteers, participation,
contributions would be welcomed!

The international organization [1] will be supplying us with 40
Ubuntu disks to pass out.

Novell [2] will be shipping us some materials on SuSE.

Redhat [3] will provide some disks and - what else? - red hats.

We plan to burn copies of the OpenCD [4] (we hear that v4 is Real
Soon Now), OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 [5] installs for Windows and Mac,
OpenOffice.org Extras, and some matching datasheets (what's an
OpenCD? What's OpenOffice.org?)

Open Office Premium (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooop) was
released on 24-Aug; I'll be grabbing that and evaluating it this week.

Bill and I are still forming plans for what exactly to show. We'll
bring along a couple of machines, with the intention of showing off
FOSS on our machines. We'll probably also bring some CD-Rs in case we
run out of pre-made disks. We'll have some internet connectivity at
the event, but really don't want to count on it.

We've invited a number of Hopkinton-based organizations: the SAU, the
Contoocook-Hopkinton Business Association, the town offices. We've
posted the events in the local papers - the Bow Times and Concord
Monitor, and posted the event to NHPR. If time and materials allow,
we'll put up posters and handouts in the next two weeks.

There's lots more we could do, if we had more volunteers to do it.
Anyone interested?

1. We'd welcome folks to show up with a computer and show what they do.

2. We could use writers and proofreaders and printers to help us put
together some handouts.

3. If anyone knows of good handouts for OO.o, OpenCD, FOSS, LAMP,
etc., please send along some links.

4. If anyone wants to bring along a BoxO'Joe and donut holes, I don't
think anyone would object.
