I'm pretty sure that my problem is solved.

No incantation of growisofs worked on my FC5 box. I didn't know that
cdrecord handled DVDs too but at Shawn's suggestion I gave that a
whirl. That didn't work either. I got an error that kindof looked
like this:

cdrecord: Input/output error. reserve track: scsi sendcmd: no error

After some searching, I happened across this:

  http://osdir.com/ml/audio.cd-record/2005-03/msg00034.html

...which is a mailing list posting that pretty strongly suggested to
me that I was using a version of cdrecord that didn't support writing
to DVDs. So I downloaded the source, compiled that, and did this:

  # ~kdc/download/cdrtools-2.01.01/cdrecord/OBJ/athlon-linux-cc/cdrecord -dao -dev 1,0,0 -data F-7-i386-DVD.iso

...and when I checked this morning, the DVD seems to have burned. I
haven't done a media check but I'm guessing it will be OK.

Thanks Shawn and Ben for the helpful suggestions!

Regards,
