I'm used to Sun Sparc hardware which does serial very well. The iLOM is
serial/ethernet. I haven't tried the serial stuff on the x64 based stuff
yet. I did have to install Windows XP 64 on an intel quad core workstation
but didn't have time to try the serial port.
ILO ought to be the cheapest, though I haven't done much with it yet.

I haven't needed to be yet. The ipmitool app is supposed to work with a few
varients.
