M-Audio has a portable device for recording sound for podcasts. It saves
to mp3 or wav. Included with it is a copy of Audacity for Windows. I
remember the apps bundled with Soundblaster for DOS that could never get any
better and no one else used.
Audacity often gets recommended to podcasters and they never need to get
another app. Imagine if The Gimp came out & got estabilished before
Photoshop?
